UART Rx FIFO Depth
If I understand the PIC32 manual, some of the UARTs have an Rx FIFO depth of 4 and others have 8. I haven't found the page yet which specifies which UARTs have a depth of 8. I have 115200 baud comms into the PIC32 UART #2 on the MOD port and a timer interrupt. If I use timer interrupts every 0.5 msec, I sometimes lose incoming characters; with timer interrupts every 0.25 msec, all is well. Maybe I should switch to a different UART with a larger FIFO.... which ones are available?

RE: UART Rx FIFO Depth
It may vary with the chip so maybe check the specific data sheet rather than the generic (Family) one. Or use interrupts from the device - that way you shouldn't miss any bytes.
