I don't think so. But take a look at this schematic.

If you don't want the rtc the 32khz crystal isn't necessary.

Ah, you're right. The schematic from the wiki page uses the tqfp version.
But this should work: same crystal, same capacitors, userled is the same pin, 3.3V...

I think pin compatibility is one of the greatest 'pros' for using microchip: with a little extra effort (on bypassing possibilities for things like crystal(s), regulator a.s.o as well as 'not missing' possible extra features of certain chips like RTC, extra debug ICSP at n.c. pins a.s.o) it should be quite 'simple' to develop, for instance, a 'generic' TQFP44 PCB design which then can be populated with quite a wide range of chips so different like the 18(L)Fs (K50, J50/53) or even the 32MX250F128D-IPT.
